Building a website in Serbia in 2026 costs roughly 300 to 800 euros with a freelancer, 800 to 2,500 euros with a small studio, and custom agency projects run from 2,500 to 10,000 euros and up. An online store almost always passes 2,000 euros, because it carries payments, shipping and product administration. These figures are ballpark market numbers and they move with the scope of work, but they are more realistic than any price list parked on a website.

Why does nobody publish a price? Because the word “website” covers a hundred different things. A five page brochure site and a portal with search, filters and user accounts share nothing but the label. In this article we break the price down line by line, so you can see exactly what you are paying for and where differences of several thousand euros come from.

Realistic price ranges in Serbia in 2026

Three tiers of provider, three tiers of price. Roughly, this is what the market looks like:

  • Freelancer: 300 to 800 euros for a brochure site. The cheapest option, but everything rides on one person, their calendar and their mood.
  • Small studio: 800 to 2,500 euros. You get design and development as a process, usually with a contract and a deadline.
  • Agency, custom project: 2,500 to 10,000 euros and up, depending on functionality. That includes strategy, SEO from day one and measured results.
  • Online store: 2,000 to 15,000 euros, depending on the number of products, payment methods and courier integrations.

An example for clarity: a trade business with four services and a gallery of past work is usually well served by a mid range site, around 1,200 to 1,800 euros. The same company with online booking and bilingual content is already in agency territory. The point is not the number of pages, it is how much work the site is supposed to do instead of you.

Annual running costs always exist. A domain runs 10 to 20 euros, hosting 50 to 300 euros a year, depending on traffic. That holds no matter who builds the site.

What actually goes into the price of a website

The price of a website is the sum of six line items: design, copy, development, SEO foundations, testing and launch. When a quote shows only a single number, one of these is usually missing, most often the copy or the SEO.

  1. Design: page layouts, colors, typography, the mobile version. Twenty to 40 percent of the budget.
  2. Copy: who writes the headlines and the service descriptions? If that lands on you, the project usually stalls for weeks.
  3. Development: turning the design into a fast, working website. The largest single item.
  4. SEO foundations: page structure, speed, meta data, sitemap. Without them Google finds you far more slowly.
  5. Testing: checking the site on phones, tablets and different browsers.
  6. Launch: domain, hosting, email addresses, analytics hooked up.

Copy deserves a special mention. It is the item buyers most often overestimate on their own side: “we have that somewhere” usually turns out to be three paragraphs from an old flyer. Budget one to two weeks for writing the content of an eight page website, no matter who does the writing.

How to read the quote you receive

A good quote takes five minutes to read. It says what is being built, at what price, by what date, and what happens afterwards: who maintains the site, who owns the code, who owns the domain. If any of that is missing, ask before you sign, because those gaps are exactly where the extras get billed later.

Pay attention to what is not in the quote as well. Hidden items usually hide behind phrases like “additional work as agreed.” We list every item up front, with no hidden costs, and that is a standard you have every right to demand from any provider.

Where a difference of several thousand euros comes from

Two websites can look similar and cost three times as much. The difference is under the hood: the technology, the speed, and how much the site works for you when nobody is looking at it. A template on shared hosting and a website built on the React and Next.js stack are not the same product, even though both have a home page and a contact form.

The second big factor is scope. Every extra feature, bookings, multiple languages, user accounts, a link to your invoicing software, adds development hours. That is why a serious provider first asks what the site needs to do, and only then talks price.

Hidden costs to watch for

Not every cost is in the quote. These are the ones that surface later:

  • Licenses for themes and plugins that renew every year, which nobody mentioned.
  • Every small change billed by the hour, because maintenance was never defined.
  • Photography and illustrations charged separately.
  • Moving the site to another provider, when the code and the logins are not yours.

The last one is the most expensive. With us, ownership of the website, the code and the domain stays with the client, always. If nobody guarantees you that in writing, assume you are renting the site rather than owning it.

How to get an exact price instead of an estimate

Send three things: what you do, what the site needs to do, and whether you have copy and photos. That is it. On that basis the price gets calculated rather than guessed, so after a 30 minute call we send you a detailed quote within 48 hours, with every line item and a delivery date. Compare three quotes written out this way and the price differences suddenly have an explanation, so you negotiate over line items instead of over impressions.

Before you sign anything, also read how to choose a web design agency. Feel free to put the seven questions from that article to us as well. Price matters, but the answer to “who owns the site once I have paid” matters more.
